Allied health professionals form the back bone of HA’s clinical
services team. In collaboration with doctors and nurses, allied health
professionals provide direct clinical services to patients. In view of the
differences in expertise required, allied health professionals are organized
into 3 streams. These include:
(a) Technology;
(b) Rehabilitation; and
(c) Pharmacy.
Audiology Technician II
- A Certificate of Audiology Technicians’ training course from an institution recognised by the British Association of Audiology Technicians or the British Society of Audiology; or equivalent.
- A Certificate of Qualifying Examinations from the British Association of Audiology Technicians or the British Society of Audiology (Audiology Technicians Group); or equivalent.
Clinical psychologist
- A Master or Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from a local university; or equivalent.
- Grade E in English Language (Syllabus B) and Chinese Language in the HKCEE, or equivalent.
- Fluency in written English and Chinese as well as spoken English and Cantonese.
Dietitian
- A Master degree or a post-graduate diploma in a recognised dietetic programme conducted in a local university, or equivalent.
- Dispenser
- i) A Certificate in Dispensing Studies from the Vocational Training Council, or equivalent AND
- - completed the 3-year on-the-job training organised by the Hospital Authority OR
- - have 3 years' on-the-job training in dispensing in recognised institutions 1 year of which should be
- post-certificate
- OR A Bachelor Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent from an institution recognised by the Pharmacy and Poisons
- Board of Hong Kong for registration
- OR A Higher Diploma in a recognised dispensing-related studies programme conferred by a local academic
- institution, or equivalent
- ii) Grade E or above in English Language (Syllabus B) in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination, or
- equivalent
- OR Level 2 or above in English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education, or equivalent
Associate Medical Technologist
- A B.Sc. degree in Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent.
- A Certificate of Registration (Part II) and a valid Practising Certificate issued by the Medical Laboratory Technologist Board, Hong Kong.
Occupational Therapist II
- A B.Sc./ B.Sc. (Hons) degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent.
- Be registered as an Occupational Therapist of the Register of the Occupational Therapists under the Supplementary Medical Professions Ordinance and have a valid Practicing Certificate issued by the Occupational Therapists Board, Hong Kong.
Optometrist II
- A degree in Optometry from a local university or equivalent.
- A Certificate of Registration (Part I) and a valid Practising Certificate issued by the Optometrists Board, Hong Kong.
Orthoptist II
- A diploma or degree in Orthoptics, or equivalent.
- Be eligible for registration with the United Kingdom Council for Professions Supplementary to Medicine or Orthoptic Board of Australia, or equivalent.
Pharmacist
- A Certificate of Registration and a valid Practising Certificate issued by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board, Hong Kong.
- 4 years’ post-registration experience as a pharmacist or 2 years’ postregistration experience as a pharmacist plus a relevant postgraduate professional degree or equivalent.
Physicist
- A Master degree in Physics (General, Medical, Radiation, Health or Applied Physics) or Engineering (Electronic, Electrical, Computer, Microwave, Biomedical, Telecommunications or Medical Electronic Engineering) from a local university, or equivalent, and
- Two years’ Resident Physicist training in HA.
- OR A Corporate Member of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (Electrical or Electronic Disciplines) elected on or after 5 December 1975 or the Institution of Engineering and Technology, UK.
Physiotherapist II
- A B.Sc. / B.Sc. (Hons) degree in Physiotherapy or equivalent.
- Be registered as a Physiotherapist in Part 1b/1a of the Register of Physiotherapists under the Supplementary Medical Professions Ordinance and have a valid Practicing Certificate issued by the Physiotherapists Board, Hong Kong.
Podiatrist II
- A degree in Podiatry, Podiatric Medicine or Podiatric Studies, or equivalent.
- Be eligible for professional registration of Podiatrist (or equivalent) in the country where the qualification was conferred.
Prosthetist-Orthotist II
- A degree in Prosthetics & Orthotics from a local university or equivalent.
Radiation Therapist II
- A degree in Radiography (Therapy) from a local university or equivalent.
- A Certificate of Registration (Category T) (Part I or II) and a valid Practising Certificate issued by the Radiographers Board, Hong Kong.
Radiographer II
- A degree in Radiography from a local university or equivalent.
- A Certificate of Registration (Category D) (Part II) and a valid Practicing Certificate issued by the Radiographer Board, Hong Kong.
Social Work Officer
- A degree in Social Work from a local university or equivalent.

OR A degree from a local university, or equivalent and have successfully completed a 1-year post-graduate course in Social Work from a local university, or equivalent.

OR A degree from a local university, or equivalent and have successfully completed a 2-year post-graduate course in Social Work or possess a Master's degree in Social Work from a local university, or equivalent.

AND Registration with and a valid registration certificate issued by the Hong Kong Social Workers Registration Board.

AND 5 years' experience as an Assistant Social Work Officer in Medical Social Services or equivalent.

AND Grade E or above in English Language (Syllabus B) in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination, or equivalent.

Speech Therapist
- A degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences from a local university or equivalent .
- Grade E in English Language (Syllabus B) and Chinese Language in the HKCEE or equivalent.
